Browser FPS games to play with friends, with real private lobbies
Getting five friends into the same game should not take forty minutes. It usually does, because one person is on a Mac, one has no disk space, and one forgot their password.
A browser shooter skips all of that. Somebody sends a link, everyone clicks it, you are playing. The catch is that many browser games are built around public matchmaking, and their "play with friends" button is an afterthought. These are the ones where it works.
What a good private lobby needs
- One link to join. Not a friend code, a friend request and a party invite.
- No accounts. Every sign-up screen loses you one friend.
- A way to keep strangers out. A password, or a room that is hidden from the public list.
- Host controls. Map, mode, time limit, team sizes.
- Something to fill empty slots. Three people can not play a 4v4 without bots.
1. Lobbystrike
This is the game we make, and private rooms are the thing we built it around. The host creates a room and gets an invite link and a room code. You can add a password and tick "friends only" so the room does not show in the public browser. The lobby has team slots your friends can pick, a chat box, and controls for the map, the mode and the bots.
What you do once everyone is in depends on the group:
| Your group | Try this | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 2 players | Gunfight 1v1, or Wave Survival co-op | Short rounds, or the two of you against 12 waves of bots |
| 3 to 4 players | Gunfight 2v2, Battle Royale squad | Even teams, or one squad dropping on an island of bots |
| 5 to 8 players | Search & Destroy, or Snipers Only 4v4 | No-respawn bomb rounds, or an eight-player bolt-action match |
| 8 or more | Domination, Capture the Flag, Infected | Objectives keep a big room from turning into chaos |
| Mixed skill levels | Gun Game, One in the Chamber | Party rules level the field |
A room holds up to 64 players. The full walkthrough is in how to play with friends.
2. Shell Shockers
Shell Shockers has had private games for a long time and they are simple: create a game, share the code or link, pick the mode and map. Nobody needs an account. It is the easiest recommendation for a group that includes people who do not normally play shooters, because being an egg takes the edge off losing.
Limits: few modes, no bots, so small groups get small matches.
3. Krunker
Krunker lets you host custom games and share the link, and the host options go deep: custom maps, modified rules, community game modes. If someone in your group likes building maps, this is the pick.
Limits: the movement skill gap is brutal. A friend who has played for a year will not be much fun for a friend who started today.
4. 1v1.LOL
For exactly two people who want to settle something. Party up, pick 1v1 or a box fight, and go. It is a third-person building shooter, so it helps if you both know that style.
5. Bullet Force
Bullet Force supports custom matches, and its loadout system gives a group something to argue about between rounds. It suits friends who already play military shooters on their phones.
We checked the private-match features of other games in October 2026. They change, so confirm on each game's own site.
Setting up a game night that does not fall apart
- Pick the game before the night. Deciding in the group chat at 9 pm costs half an hour.
- Have the host open the room early and pin the link. Late arrivals join a match in progress instead of holding everyone up (in Battle Royale they wait for the next drop).
- Start with a respawn mode. Team Deathmatch lets people learn the controls while the stragglers connect. Move to round-based modes once everyone has arrived.
- Use bots to balance, not just to fill. Uneven numbers? Add a bot. It joins the smaller side, and the room's bot skill (Easy, Normal or Hard) decides how much help it is.
- Change mode every two or three matches. In Lobbystrike the room stays open between matches and players vote on the next map, so nobody has to rejoin.
- Use voice chat from somewhere else. Discord, a phone call, the same sofa. Browser games do not do voice well.
Same room, same Wi-Fi?
Browser shooters make good LAN-party games because there is nothing to install on anyone's machine. Everybody opens the same link. Lobbystrike also runs on phones and tablets with touch controls, so the friend who turned up without a laptop can still join in, though they will be at a disadvantage against a mouse.
Questions and answers
What is the best browser FPS to play with friends?
For private rooms with host controls and bots, Lobbystrike. For a light, silly match with non-gamers, Shell Shockers. For custom maps and rules, Krunker.
How do I make a private FPS lobby in a browser?
In Lobbystrike, press Play, create a room, add an optional password and send your friends the invite link or room code. No account is needed.
Can two people play a browser FPS together?
Yes. In Lobbystrike two players can play Gunfight 1v1, team up in co-op Wave Survival, or drop into Battle Royale as a duo against bots.
Do my friends need to download anything?
No. Everyone opens the invite link in a current browser. Phones and tablets get touch controls; keyboard and mouse play best.
