Free FPS games with no download: what is actually worth opening

Holding the hardpoint between two houses on the Cul-de-sac map in Lobbystrike

You have ten minutes, a laptop that is not yours to install things on, and you want to shoot something. That is the whole use case for a no-download FPS, and it is a good one.

The trouble is that "no download" gets slapped on a lot of games that then ask you to install a launcher, make an account, or sit through a 400 MB loading bar. This page is about the ones that keep the promise.

What "no download" really means

Nothing is truly download-free. A browser game still fetches its code, models and sounds when you open it. The difference is where they go and what you have to do. A proper no-download game:

  • runs inside a normal browser tab, with nothing to install and no admin password,
  • starts in well under a minute on an ordinary connection,
  • lets you play before it asks who you are,
  • leaves nothing behind except some cached files the browser cleans up itself.

If a game fails one of those, it is a download with extra steps.

What your computer needs

Less than you think. Modern browser shooters use WebGL 2, which has been in Chrome, Edge and Firefox for years and in Safari since 16.4. Integrated graphics from the last five or six years are usually enough at a lower preset.

  1. Update your browser. An out-of-date browser is the most common reason a game shows a black screen.
  2. Check hardware acceleration is on. It is in the browser's settings under System or Performance. Without it, the game renders on the CPU and crawls.
  3. Plug in a mouse. You can not aim on a trackpad. You can try.
  4. Close the other thirty tabs. They are using the memory the game wants.

Pick by situation

You have ten minutes

You want a game that drops you into a match with one click. Krunker, Shell Shockers and Kour.io are all built for this. So is Lobbystrike: type a name, press Play, and you are in a Team Deathmatch with bots filling the empty slots, so you never wait for a lobby.

You want to play with friends

This is where most browser shooters get awkward, because they are built around public matchmaking. You want a game with real private rooms. In Lobbystrike you create a room, set a password and share a link. The host picks the map, the mode and the number of bots. We have a step-by-step in how to play with friends, and a wider list of browser FPS games to play with friends.

You want to play alone

Public servers at odd hours can be empty or full of people far better than you. Bots fix both. Lobbystrike lets you add up to 60 bots at Easy, Normal or Hard in almost every one of its 22 modes (Gunfight stops at 2v2), and they capture zones, carry flags and plant the bomb. There is also Wave Survival: you against 12 waves that keep getting tougher.

Your laptop is slow

Stay away from big open maps and pick small arenas. Krunker and Shell Shockers are light. In Lobbystrike, switch Settings to the Performance preset and choose a compact map such as Killhouse or Warehouse; the game also lowers its render resolution by itself if the frame rate drops. Our low-end laptop guide has the full checklist.

You want something bigger than deathmatch

Look for objective modes and battle royale. War Brokers has vehicles and missions. Voxiom.io has building. Lobbystrike has Search & Destroy, Capture the Flag, Hardpoint and a battle royale with a plane drop, all in the same room without reloading the page.

Other games change often. We checked these details in October 2026; treat the table as a starting point and look at each game's own site for the current state.

Things to be careful about

  • "Unblocked" mirror sites. Copies of popular games on random domains are often out of date and stuffed with ads. Play on the game's own site.
  • School and work networks. If games are blocked, they are blocked for a reason that is not ours to argue with. We do not publish ways around filters.
  • Browser extensions that promise aimbots. They are malware with a marketing budget.

Questions and answers

Which FPS can I play without downloading anything?

Lobbystrike, Krunker, Shell Shockers, Deadshot.io and Venge.io all run in a browser tab with no install. Lobbystrike also needs no account: you only type a player name.

Are no-download FPS games safe?

Games played on their official sites run inside the browser's sandbox, like any web page. Avoid unofficial mirror sites and never install an extension a game page asks for.

Do I need a good PC for browser FPS games?

No. A laptop with integrated graphics from the last several years will run most of them at a lower graphics preset. You do need a current browser with hardware acceleration switched on.

Can I play a no-download FPS offline?

Not the multiplayer ones. Matches run on a server, so you need a connection even when you play against bots.
